This website is intended to help readers understand ethos so that they might use the concept to create stronger written work of their own. This site provides an initial explanation of ethos and several examples of ethos at work. Although this site could be useful for a variety of audiences, I've chosen examples that make it especially applicable to business students.
Ethos is a concept drawn from the field of rhetoric. We might use credibility as a sort of synonym. You might want to have a project in mind where credibility is important as you view this website. (Having an example can be helpful in thinking about how ethos works.) As you go through the site, remember that ethos can show up in many different ways and that learning how to use it is an ongoing process. I hope that this site can help readers to gain an understanding of what ethos means and how to build positive ethos in a variety of professional writing situations.
This website is a Content Curation Project (CCP) for the 2015 Writing Across the Curriculum Academy at East Carolina University. Thanks to the ECU Writing Program for its support of this project!
